ABOUT THE WORK
Dance Leads to Chaos is a large-scale, community-engaged dance theatre work exploring the significance of dance in our lives.
Inspired by historic restrictions on dance and artistic expression from around the world, the work draws on Australians’ recent experience of COVID-19 dance restrictions, while reminding us that restrictions on dance and gathering have a much longer and brutal history for First Nations people in this country.
Moving across contemporary, cultural and street dance forms, Dance Leads to Chaos brings professional dance artists and large local Community Casts together in a call to return to our basic human need to move, gather and express ourselves — led by the oldest living culture in the world.
Part dance work, part public service announcement, it creates a space to reflect on what is lost when we can’t dance — and what happens when we come together again.
Expect dance, storytelling, music, projection — and yes, probably a little chaos.
COMMUNITY CAST
Want to be part of Dance Leads to Chaos? At the heart of Dance Leads to Chaos is our Community Cast — a large-scale chorus of local participants who co-create and perform alongside our professional artists. Take part in a series of welcoming workshops where you’ll learn movement and choreography from the work, meet other people in your community and prepare to perform as part of the final production. No dance experience required. All ages, experiences and bodies welcome.
COMMUNITY CAST WORKSHOP LOCATIONS
Magandjin / Brisbane - starting October 14th
Kabi Kabi Country / Sunshine Coast - starting October 29th
